General Information:
Although we advertise and sell crias, they must remain at
Stormwind until they are weaned. We oppose forced weaning, except
under unusual circumstances. Normally, our moms wean their babies
between 7-8 months. All crias are halter trained before leaving
our farm. New owners don't always appreciate all the hard work
we put into handling and training until they have a base of comparison.
Stormwind customers will receive special invitations to all Camelidynamics
workshops sponsored by Stormwind Alpacas. We feel that smart handling
techniques are the key to enjoying your alpaca business to the
fullest extent possible.
All our alpacas are DNA tested to verify parentage and registered
with the Alpaca Registry Inc. We take care of the initial registration
process. Buyers can be assured of the correct identity of both
sire and dam. No complicated co-ownerships will hold up the registration
process. We are the sole owners of our breeding stock, including
our breeding males. If you purchase alpacas from any farm,
request to see ARI certificates of the animal you intend to purchase.
If it's a cria (baby), ask to see the certificates of sire and
dam. Pay attention to the owners listed at the top of the certificate.
Here is an example of an ARI certificate/pedigree:

Thank you, Derek and Deborah Lamer (Bella Cria Alpacas) for allowing
us to purchase this special boy.
Stormwind’s Consulting Service:
Quite often, ads promise “Support after the sale.” Support can mean just about anything or, in some sad cases, virtually nothing. After 10 years of experience breeding alpacas, we have a well defined and structured educational support program in place. Instead of nebulous promises, our customers receive private consultation on all aspects of alpaca ownership and care. A pre-purchase visit and several instructional sessions lasting between 3-5 hours each are mandatory before we agree to deliver alpacas purchased from us to your farm.
We don’t wait for you to ask questions. On some subject areas related to alpacas, you may not even know which questions to ask. Our advice is especially helpful to breeders on a modest budget. These services apply to alpacas sold by our boarders as well.
Ingrid has written an interesting rebuttal to some of the negative aspects of the Wall Street Journal article of April 4, 2007, regarding the tax advantages of raising alpacas. Her article can be read here.
To appreciate Ingrid’s breadth and depth of knowledge on a variety of health and husbandry issues, you may want to periodically check this page for re-prints of Investigator Profiles she wrote for the Alpaca Research Foundation (published in Alpacas
Magazine).
